  • Hi there, I’m Kim! I’m thrilled to be part of the incredible team at Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy!

My journey to becoming both a nurse and a nurse psychotherapist has been shaped by my experiences working in the NICU, where I saw firsthand the heavy emotional loads families carry. As nurses, our focus is often on bedside care, but I wanted to do more — to bridge the gap between medical care and mental health support. My own experience in therapy over the past four years has been life-changing, and I’m passionate about creating that kind of positive, transformative space for others.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from McMaster University, and I’m currently working toward my Master of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, which I’ll complete in April 2025. While my career started with band-aids and thermometers, my time in nursing taught me the importance of therapeutic communication, advocacy, and compassion — skills I carry with me into every psychotherapy session.

My areas of focus include anxiety, trauma, postpartum and perinatal mental health, self-esteem, life transitions, and women’s health. I feel particularly connected to supporting birthing people, young adults, and the queer and trans community. In our sessions, you can expect a mix of humour and light-heartedness with the grounded, serious care you need. I draw on evidence-based approaches like EMDR, mindfulness, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and polyvagal theory to tailor our work to your needs.

Creating an inclusive, affirming space is one of the most important aspects of the therapeutic relationship for me. I am passionate about working with 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, ensuring that everyone I work with feels seen, respected, and valued for who they are.

I am particularly passionate about EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy, a powerful approach to healing that helps people process and move past difficult experiences. EMDR is especially effective for trauma, anxiety, and negative self-beliefs that feel "stuck" or overwhelming. Through EMDR, we work together to reframe how your brain stores these memories, reducing their emotional charge and helping you feel more in control of your thoughts and feelings. Whether you're navigating past trauma, managing perinatal challenges, or facing life transitions, I believe EMDR can be a transformative tool for creating lasting change and fostering resilience.

When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me curled up with a good book and a cup of tea, walking my dog, or dabbling in pottery, yoga, and paddleboarding. I’m a lifelong learner, always exploring new skills and therapies to bring into my practice.

I truly believe in the power of vulnerability and self-discovery, and I’m here to walk alongside you on your mental health journey.
